Acupuncture
Acupuncture involves the insertion of very thin, sterile, and disposable needles at strategic points. Traditional Chinese Medicine believes acupuncture balances the smooth flow of energy, or Qi, throughout the body.
The World Health Organization and National Institute of Health have reported acupuncture to be effective in treating various acute and chronic conditions. Studies have shown it to be effective for musculoskeletal pain, depression, migraines, seasonal allergies, and irritable bowel syndrome. It is also very effective for releasing trigger points in muscles, which can cause chronic tension and pain.
Applied in conjunction with massage, stretching, and essential oils when appropriate, this customized treatment addresses a wide variety of client needs.
To further benefit each client, yoga based postures and breathing techniques may be integrated into the treatment or recommended as self-care for clients to practice at home.
On a personal note, Christy used to be needle-phobic and doesn’t like to get shots or give blood at the doctor. It is through her 12 years of receiving acupuncture that she has experienced the many benefits firsthand. If you are concerned about getting needled, she completely understands and will work with you to provide a beneficial treatment.
Yoga
Each session is carefully planned taking your goals and health history into account. Drawing on her anatomy and physiology training, Christy will ensure a safe experience that can be very relaxing and/or challenging, depending on what you’re seeking.
In one on one sessions, clients get personalized sequences and feedback. For someone new to yoga, recovering from an injury, or wanting to focus on something specific, this provides an environment where’s it’s all about you.
Group classes and corporate sessions are also available. Christy has experience varying from teaching a corporate relaxation class in a boardroom, to restorative yoga at the Superdome for survivors of Hurricane Katrina with Urban Zen, and providing massage backstage at shows.
As a life long student of yoga, Christy practices gentle/restorative yoga and pranayama (breathing techniques), as well as vinyasa and level 3 Iyengar.
She has a soft spot for people who don’t think they can do yoga, or are not flexible enough. She loves finding ways to make it approachable and understandable.
